CAREERS TALKS & WORKSHOPS ON WORKING IN THE MEDIA IN SCHOOLS & UNIVERSITIES
In addition to our work in film and TV, Industrial Scripts is also increasingly active in the education sector, delivering high-quality media careers talks and workshops in schools and universities, lecturing and speaking at events, and also acting as mentors to people looking to build a career in the business.
Our speakers are all experienced professionals with experience in diverse areas of the media, and we can work with you to tailor a careers talk or workshop to your specific requirements. Our careers workshops in schools include teamwork and communication exercises and are very PSHE-friendly.
If you are looking for a media professional with very specific experience, we also act as an agency and through our contacts in the media can source you an appropriate speaker to suit your requirements. The institutions we have worked with include…. (many of these include repeat bookings)
1) Half-Day Media Careers Workshop – £550.00 + travel expenses from London
On this, our most popular booking, students learn about the different career options open to them in the media, and then work in groups to prepare a film pitch presentation. The workshop is heavily interactive and emphasises teamwork, communication skills, presentation skills and delivers a significant amount of information on how to get ahead and build a career in the media, as well as proving very entertaining and stimulating for students.
2) Up to 2-Hour Careers Seminar – £350.00 + travel expenses from London
Our 2-hour seminar on careers in the media focuses heavily on the varied paths open to students, and particularly highlights less familiar or popular career routes that students should still be aware of. The session also includes an interactive story analysis section, do’s and don’ts of applying for internships in the media (and also the most common mistakes made by interns in the media), and a comprehensive Q & A with the speaker.
3) 40-minute/1 Hour (max) Media Lesson & Q & A – £250.00 + travel expenses
Due to popular demand, we are also now offering a “Media Lesson” seminar for the first time. This session enables schools to deliver significant knowledge on careers in the media, without disrupting the curriculum, by fitting the session into a spare lesson. This booking includes advice and guidance on careers in the media, followed by a comprehensive Q & A.
4) Screenwriting for Beginners Course (for students & teachers) – £750 (full day) or £550 (half day) + travel
Our scriptwriting course for beginners has been designed for creative students & teachers who possess great ideas for films or TV shows, but don’t know where to begin. It delivers a huge amount of information, packed into either a half-day or full-day, to participants new to screenwriting. Focusing on both the writing process, and the industry writers find work in, the course aims to heavily de-mystify the process by which people become professional screenwriters, and help very new writers navigate the sometimes precarious early years of the screenwriter.
“Please pass on my thanks for your talk today, which was excellent. It was pitched exactly right and the feedback from the girls has been really positive. I am so pleased, thank you again.” Emily Niel, Guildford High School for Girls
“I wanted to drop you a small e-mail to say an enormous “thank you” for coming to Downe House last night and talking about your experiences both as a script writer and a script analyst. The girls thoroughly enjoyed listening to you – so much so that I had girls talking about it for a good hour after you left! Thank you for giving up your evening to travel to the depths of Berkshire, and I hope that you will be able to come at a later date to repeat your fantastic talk.” Vicky Marks, Downe House School
“I booked a speaker for our GCSE Media group and Industrial Scripts’ speaker was so good! He spoke about scriptwriting which the students are studying as part of their GCSE course at the moment, careers in the media industry and his background. The students feedback was so positive and they hugely enjoyed the session. 5 stars.” Teresa Crowley, Notre Dame School, Southwark
