The screenplay to the heart-warming hit film about a miner’s son who dreams of being a ballet dancer, written by acclaimed playwright Lee Hall. 11-year-old Billy Elliot is fascinated by an all-girl ballet class that shares the premises of his weekly boxing club.

He hangs up his gloves and submits himself to the tutelage of Mrs Wilkinson, who dreams of a place for Billy in ballet school. But Billy’s Dad and brother Tony are striking miners, struggling to support a motherless family. Neither is thrilled to learn of Billy’s artistic aspirations, and the stage is set for passionate familial conflict.
